Situation
Having pioneered “big box” general merchandise retailing in China, our client had achieved critical mass and needed to align and consolidate merchandise management practices in order to support exponential growth in China going forward.
Approach
Through a succession of highly focused individual projects over the course of three years, we helped the client leverage internal best practices, improve analytical tools, sharpen procurement processes and structure its national merchandise organization.
Results
Helping the client implement a center-led merchandise organization, we supported supplier negotiations that led to 4.5% total annualized savings, assessed and re-engineered all key functions including assortment strategy, pricing, promotion, and store operations.
